Lakewood, N.J. - Thanks to a 62.1% shooting percentage from the floor, Georgian Court University concocted its largest win in over five years as the Lions routed visiting Dominican College, 91-70, Saturday afternoon in the GCU Wellness Center.
The home win, Georgian Court's first of the season, pushes the Lions to a respectable 4-2 (4-10 overall) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's hoops action while the visiting Lady Chargers drop to 6-9 (4-2 CACC) on the year. Saturday's outcome was the largest margin of victory for GCU since the Lions defeated Concordia College by 27 (85-58) back on Jan. 4, 2014.
Georgian Court's 91-point outburst is the most points by the Lions since pouring in 95 in a 101-95 overtime loss to Dominican back on Feb. 12, 2005.
The Lions, shooting an incredible 71% (22-for-31) from the field over the first 20 minutes of action, coasted into intermission with a 52-38 cushion. The surplus would grow to a game-high 28 points with 2:21 remaining in the third quarter when a
Carna Prokic three-pointer pushed the GCU lead to 72-44.
The aforementioned Prokic paced a Georgian Court offense that showcased five players with double-digit scoring efforts. The senior provided a dazzling line that consisted of 21 points (8-for-10 FG), to go along with nine assists, seven boards and three steals.
Safiyyah Lee followed with 16 points on the day while J
ada Atchison added 14 points, which contained a team-best four three-pointers in the triumph.
Destiny Thompson (9 rebounds) and
Ivona Krakic (seven rebounds, four assists, four blocks) each provided 13 points apiece.
Korina Guerra (So.-White Plains, N.Y.) topped the Lady Chargers with 14 points over 33 minutes.
