Philadelphia, Pa. - Georgian Court University, looking to win a fifth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest for the first time since the 2012-13, would have to take down a formidable foe to do so Wednesday evening as the Lions visited the #10 team in the nation, Jefferson University.
The undefeated Lady Rams proved to be too tough as the home team eased its way to a 64-35 divisional victory. Jefferson continues to sit atop the CACC women's basketball standings with a perfect mark of 18-0 (9-0 CACC).
Jefferson jumped out to a mighty 25-9 advantage after the first quarter of action and coasted from there in what proved to be an offensive challenge for both teams the rest of the way. Despite the win, the Lady Rams shot just 30.8% (20-65) from the floor while the Lions hit on only 15 of its 64 attempts, resulting in a paltry 23.4 field-goal percentage.
Caitlyn Cunningham (So.-Dresher, Pa.) paced the victors with 17 points on the night, followed by
Jessica Kaminski (Sr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) with her 16.
Alynna Williams (Jr.-Ambler, Pa.) also cracked double-digits with her scoring effort of 10 points while
Beverly Kum (Sr.-Hagerstown, Md.) netted nine points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
For the Lions,
Ivona Krakic enjoyed her second-straight outing scoring in double-digits as the freshman poured in a personal season-high 15 to top the visitors. The native of Novi Grad, Bosnia also cleared the glass of a team-high seven boards,
Jada Atchison contributed nine points in the effort.
GCU (4-11, 4-3 CACC) remains on the road for its next contest as the Lions travel to Concordia College in Bronxville, N.Y. Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
