Lions Return to Winning Ways With 69-61 Victory at Concordia College

Bronxville, N.Y. - Georgian Court University captured its fifth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of the season Saturday as the Lions closed out a 69-61 win at Concordia College in interdivisional women's basketball action.

The third-place Lions (5-11 overall) now have five CACC wins in one season for the first time since capturing seven conference triumphs back in 2012-13. The host-Clippers slide to 3-14 (1-7 CACC) after the home loss.

GCU owned a 38-29 advantage at the intermission, and increased the surplus to a game-high 15 when a Destiny Thompson jumper put the visitors ahead, 49-34, with 6:40 left in the third. The Clippers closed out the frame with a 15-6 surge to slice the deficit to six (55-49) heading into the fourth quarter.

Concordia continued its comeback in the last period, closing to within just three points (61-58) with 2:12 left in regulation, but another Thompson jumper, followed by six subsequent free throws, provided the Lions the insurance it needed to secure the "W".

Thompson topped the scoring column for the victors with her 24 points on the day, complemented by the senior's nine rebounds. Safiyyah Lee filed away her team-leading third double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 boards, to go along with four blocks and a pair of steals by the senior.

Carna Prokic also provided a balanced attack for the Lions with 10 rebounds, nine points, five assists and four steals. Nerea Brajac dished a game-high seven helpers on the day.

The Lions now head home to host Holy Family University Tuesday night in CACC South Division action. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
