Philadelphia, Pa. - Georgian Court University's season-high three-game winning streak came to a halt as the Lions were tagged with a 69-49 road defeat at the hands of #9 University of the Sciences Wednesday evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball divisional action.
The Devils (19-1, 10-1 CACC) created quite the cushion as the home team ended the first quarter with a cozy 19-3 surplus over GCU. The USciences lead grew to 19 points with a 37-18 advantage at the half and never dipped below double-digits the rest of the way.
Alex Thomas (Sr.-Hockessin, Del.) sizzled for the victors with her game-high 22 points, which included the sinking of six three-pointers (on seven attempts).
Irisa Ye (So.-North Wales, Pa.) added 11 points in the triumph while also tallying five boards, five assists and a pair of blocks.
Jada Atchison led the way for the Lions with a team-best 18 points, burying 4-of-9 three-point attempts in the process.
Destiny Thompson, coming off a 26-point effort last Saturday vs. Bloomfield (which included her 1,000th career point), followed up that contest with a 14-point, eight-rebound performance at USciences.
GCU now gets some much-needed time off as the Lions do not return to the floor until Tuesday with a 6:00 p.m. home game vs. Chestnut Hill College. Georgian Court defeated the Griffins on the road, 88-73, in the teams' previous showdown back on Dec. 19.
