Lakewood, N.J.- In a battle of second-place squads, Georgian Court University welcomed #11 University of the Sciences to the Wellness Center Tuesday evening for a key battle between a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) south division foes.
After edging the home team by a basket (20-18) in the initial quarter of action, the Devils (13-1, 4-1 CACC) pounced on the Lions in the second stanza with a 28-9 scorching to take a healthy 48-27 lead into intermission. The surplus never dipped below 22-points in the second half, and grew to as many as 31 on two separate occasions in the fourth quarter.
Jordan Vitelli (Jr.-Warrington, Pa.) led the charge for the victors with her game-high 20 points and six rebounds, including 5-for-9 shooting from three-point land.
Alex Thomas (Sr.-Hockessin, Del.) added 14 points over 27 minutes to add to the winning effort.
Destiny Thompson, who entered the night needing 99 points to reach 1,000 in her stellar collegiate career as a Lion, netted 17 to lead the home team.
Carna Prokic poured in a personal season-best 14 points while
Ivona Krakic came within one point of her first career double-double (10 rebounds, nine points).Â
Georgian Court (3-10, 3-2 CACC), still seeking its first home win of the season (0-5), gets another crack at it this Saturday when the Lions host Dominican College at 12:00 p.m. in an inter-divisional contest.
