Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University secured its seventh-straight appearance in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament semifinals Tuesday as the #2 Lions registered a 3-0 victory over #7 Wilmington University on Investors Bank Field.
Aliya Canfield collected GCU's first score of the afternoon as the freshman corralled a failed clear by the Wildcats' defense before sending in her eighth of the season at 18:59.
Nicole Turelli, who entered the contest just 3:35 earlier, netted the Lions' second tally of the half (34:47) as the sophomore connected on the initial save of a shot from teammate
Kaitlin Lister.
The Lions' third-and-final goal of the game occurred at 62:56 when All-CACCÂ first-teamer,
Krystal Hund, took advantage of a crucial Wilmington infraction with a successful penalty kick. The effort marked Hund's team-leading 14th goal of the season.
GCU dominated the shots column, 21-6, with a 12-2 advantage on frame.
Alyssa Dias earned the goalkeeping decision for the Lions with two saves in 71:59. Wilmington's
Emily Camp (So., Pittsgrove, N.J.) played an outstanding game for the Wildcats despite the result (nine saves).
Georgian Court now looks to Friday when the Lions take on #3 Caldwell University at 12:30 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn. (hosted by Post University).
The Cougars, who defeated #6 Post University earlier Tuesday, have been a thorn in the side of GCU in recent years. The defending CACC champions, who ended the Lions' 28-game regular-season winning streak vs. CACC foes with a 1-0 home win over the Lions back on Oct. 5, have defeated Georgian Court in three consecutive postseason meetings.
Top-seed Jefferson will face #4 Goldey-Beacom College Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the other CACC semifinal match-up.
