Philadelphia, Pa. - Georgian Court University has advanced to its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament title game since winning it all in 2013 as the Lions outlasted #2N Caldwell University, 3-1, in Saturday's first semifinal match of the day (hosted by Holy Family University).
The Lions (29-6) will now take on either the host-Tigers (#2S) or #1N Felician University in Sunday's final at 12:00 p.m.
After dropping the two initial points of the opening set, GCU rallied for the next 10 points to take an early 10-2 advantage. Georgian Court carried that momentum to a 25-14 victory in the stanza before taking down the Cougars by a 25-15 count in set two. Caldwell (14-19) mustered a gutsy 27-25 triumph in the third period before the overall top-seed outlasted its opponent by a 25-21 mark in what would be the fourth-and-final frame.
Aubrey Binkley provided a balanced attack for the victors as the junior garnered a double-double effort consisting of 14 digs and 11 kills (.300 hitting %). All-Conference selection,
Shana Rayside, floored 10 kills behind a hitting percentage of .350.Â
As has been the scenario all season,
Jamie Sweeney and
Ashley Pierson distributed a majority of the Lions' sets, resulting in 20 and 12 assists, respectively.
Emily McCurley led all players with her 15 digs while All-CACC first-teamer,
Kinsy Haschke, tallied seven kills, seven digs, and four service aces.
