Philadelphia, Pa. - For the first time since Georgian Court University men's soccer debuted in 2013, Chestnut Hill College finds itself in the win column as the host-Griffins held on for a 2-1 triumph in Friday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular-season finale.
CHC, entering the night 0-4-2 all-time vs. the Lions, finishes its season at 5-9-3 (4-6-2 CACC) with the victory. Georgian Court having already clinched the #5 seed in next week's CACCÂ Championship Tournament quarterfinals, now puts tonight aside as they prepare to take on #4 Goldey-Beacom College Monday (2:00 p.m.) in Wilmington, Del.
GCU played from behind almost immediately as
Mo Ehmer (Sr.-Staines, England) put the home team ahead, 1-0, with his tally just 4:24 into the match. The Lions countered at 39:05 when
Louis Silva picked a quality time for his first goal of the year, sending in a
Rhys Cotter feed for the equalizer.
The stalemate held strong until the 80th minute (79:05) at which point
David Cortez (So.-Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) booted in the game-winner for the Griffins. Despite the results, Georgian Court owned a 19-12 shot advantage while each squad got off six apiece on frame.
Frank Maniscalco (Sr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) closes out his collegiate career with the goalkeeping win for CHC, gloving five saves in the effort.
Jamie Hickey secured four denials in the complete-game performance for the Lions.
Georgian Court will now take on Goldey-Beacom College (11-7, 8-4 CACC) for the second time this season. The Lightning bested the Lions, 1-0, back on October 8 in a match hosted by GCU.
