Four Lions Reach Double-Digits in Georgian Court's 80-66 Defeat at Adelphi

Garden City, N.Y. - Playing its second contest in as many days, Georgian Court University dropped an 80-66 decision to the host-Panthers Saturday on the final day of the Adelphi University Conference Challenge.

In a first half that saw four lead changes in the early minutes, Adelphi developed a 15-point advantage after a Ronnie Silva (So.-Nashua, N.H.) jumper from the paint put the Panthers up, 32-17, with 6:21 remaining in the session. The Lions managed to cut the deficit to six (34-28) with 2:18 to go before the break, but Adelphi outscored its guest 6-4 the rest of the way to take a 40-32 lead into intermission.

Trailing 45-37 just 2:27 into the second stanza, GCU mounted an 18-6 run to take a 55-51 lead with 12:06 left in regulation. The Lions ran out of steam from this point forward as the Panthers outpaced Georgian Court, 29-11, the rest of the way to secure the non-conference win.

Five Panthers achieved double-digits in the Adelphi scoring column, led by Jared Rivers (Jr.-Westbury, N.Y.) and his 18 points. Joshua Koulamallah (Fr.-Gatineau, Quebec, Canada), playing his second-ever collegiate contest, registered a double-double consisting of 12 points and 11 boards.

Four Lions reached the double-digit plateau, topped by Caleb Bowser with his 13. Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor followed with 12 points and three blocks. Jelani Jackson (eight rebounds) and Kim Speller dropped in 11 points apiece. Shane Williams provided a balanced attack consisting of nine rebounds and eight points.

Georgian Court visits the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) next Saturday, November 16 (1:00 p.m.) for an exhibition game before returning to NCAA Division II action on Wednesday, November 20 vs. the University of the District of Columbia for the Lions' home opener.
