Trailing by seven (26-19) with 5:59 remaining in the first half, the Greyhounds raced for a 9-2 run to tie the game at 28-28 with 1:06 to go before the break. Georgian Court's
Bryce Council deposited a layup with one tick left on the clock to provide the Lions a slim 30-28 lead heading into intermission.
Opening the second half with a 6-0 spurt, Assumption (6-4) took a 36-30 edge (16:52) and never looked back as the home team increased its lead to a game-high surplus of 14 points (54-40) with 9:22 remaining in regulation.
Four Greyhounds eclipsed the 10-point threshold, topped by
Matthew Kelly (Jr. - North Potomac, Md.) and his 17 points.
Malik Brown (RS Jr.-Waldorf, Md.) authored a double-double for the victors with his 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Justin Figueroa paced GCU with his team-best 15 points.
Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor and
Shane Williams followed with 11 points apiece while Council contributed 10 points of his own.Â
The Lions (4-6) will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 4 with a visit to CACC rival, Nyack College. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m.
