Philadelphia, Pa. -Making its first road trip this season for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, Georgian Court University paid a visit to the University of the Sciences for a Saturday intra-divisional women's basketball matinee.
The Devils (7-3, 1-1 CACC), ranked #23 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top-25 poll, secured a 60-45 triumph over the visiting Lions, handing GCU (1-5. 0-2 CACC) its fifth-straight setback after an opening-day victory on Nov. 9.Â
For the second straight outing, Georgian Court concluded the first quarter with a commanding lead as the Lions closed out the initial 10 minutes of action owning a 17-9 cushion vs. the Devils. The tables quickly turned in the second frame as the home team outscored the Lions, 23-7, taking a 32-24 advantage into intermission.
USciences' surplus never dropped below nine points at any point the rest of the way, and ballooned to as high as 21 points in the fourth quarter (58-37, 3:54), as the Devils coasted to the key conference win.
Three players compiled double-digit scoring efforts for the victors, led by
Kendall Keyes (So.-Mount Laurel, N.J.) and her 18 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
Safiyyah Lee topped the Lions with 10 points, to go along with six rebounds.
Ivona Krakic added nine points and five blocks for GCU.
Georgian Court returns to the hardwood next Saturday, Dec.14, when the Lions pay a non-conference visit to Kutztown University. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
