Lions Record Another Softball Sweep as Georgian Court Stays Perfect in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Georgian Court University softball remains perfect after the initial two days of the 2019 campaign as the Lions improve to 4-0 overall with regional victories vs. Clarion University and Millersville University, Saturday in the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament.

GAME ONE
Luck has been on the Lions' side thus far as GCU developed a 4-1 lead without a base hit in Saturday's opener vs. Clarion en route to an eventual 9-2 triumph over the Golden Eagles (0-4).

The Lions plated a run in the first, a pair in the second, and another lone tally in the third, courtesy of seven walks, five wild pitches and a pair of hit-by-pitches from an erratic Clarion pitching corps.

Incredibly, GCU did not collect its first hit of the game until two outs in the third inning when Kendalia Turner lay down a nifty bunt single up the third-base line.

Georgian Court quickly returned to its slugging ways, banging out a collective eight knocks overall. The Lions put the game away with a four-spot in the home half of the fifth, highlighted by Elisa Lopez's second long ball in as many days, a solo shot to center, and a ribbie double off the bat of pinch-hitter, Breanna Keelan.

Jennifer Tellefsen (1-0) earned her first win since March 5, 2018 (2-1 vs. Bentley University) as the senior fired 4.1 innings of hitless, scoreless relief (2 BB, 2 K).

Rebecca Kelley (So.-King William, Va.) had a rough go of it in the circle as the Clarion starting pitcher permitted three runs (3 ER) on seven walks and five wild pitches over 1.2 innings, despite yielding no hits.

Clarion catcher, Jessica Cartia (So.-Elizabeth, Pa.), ripped a two-out homer in the top of the first inning to highlight the Golden Eagles' offense.

GAME TWO
A five-run first frame featuring a three-run long ball from All-American Samantha Reilly (2-for-3) provided Georgian Court all the cushion it needed as the Lions cruised to a 9-1, five-inning victory over Millersville.

Three more runs came across the dish in the bottom of the fourth when 1B Marissa Trezza (2-for-3) connected on her first homer of the young year, a shot over the left-field wall.

Jessica O'Neil (2-0) went the distance for GCU in the circle, yielding one run on four hits and a walk (7 K) to earn the senior her second win in as many days for Lions.

Catherine Johnson (So.-Edmeston, N.Y.) lasted just one inning (5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB, K) in the loss as the Marauders fall to 2-2 on the year.

2B Samantha Salomon went 2-for-2 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored in the GCU rout.

Georgian Court concludes its Myrtle Beach jaunt Sunday with regional games vs. Shippensburg University (10:00 a.m.) and the University of New Haven (12:00 p.m.).
