Lakewood, N.J. - After digging themselves a 4-1 hole with 9:00 to go in the first half, #5 West Chester University unleashed 11 unanswered tallies for a 12-4 advantage with 20:46 left in regulation en route to the eventual 17-5 victory over host-Georgian Court University Saturday afternoon in NCAA Division II women's lacrosse action.
WCU, seeing its first regular-season competition of 2019, improves to 1-0 with the win while the Lions slide to 1-1 overall.
Five Golden Rams netted two or more goals in the road triumph, led by
Sami Barnett (Sr.-Glenolden, Pa.) and
Emily Schulze (Sr.-Harleysville, Pa.) with four apiece.
Tatum Altman (Jr.-North Brunswick, N.J.) registered a pair of tallies and a team-best three helpers for WCU while
Ryan McKinney (Sr.-Dowingtown, Pa.) and
Maggie Stella (Sr.-Doylestown, Pa.) enjoyed multi-goal efforts.
Madison Heck put in two goals for Georgian Court while
Nicole Barbella and
Samantha Fernandez added a goal and an assist each.
Angelina Palermo garnered her first tally of the season while
Lisa Milburn corralled six ground balls in the loss.
Julianne Clemens (So.-Springfield, Pa.), who replaced West Chester starting goalkeeper,
Nicole Martins (Jr.-Bethlehem, Pa.), with 8:25 remaining in the first half, earned the victory wih four saves over 38:25 of total action.
Amber Neumann, in the complete-game effort, collected nine saves in the Georgian Court net. The Golden Rams out-shot the Lions 36-17 overall, with a 26-11 shots-on-goal advantage.
GCU returns to action Thursday afternoon with a 2:30 p.m. non-conference home game vs. East Stroudsburg University.
