Bloomsburg, Pa. - Playing its third consecutive opponent from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to commence the 2019 campaign, Georgian Court University women's lacrosse visited Bloomsburg University Tuesday afternoon where the Lions dropped its second-straight decision, a 17-10 victory by the host-Huskies.
The loss drops GCU to 1-2 on the year while Bloomsburg kicks off its calendar with the triumph (1-0).
From the opening draw, BU came out shooting as the home team poured in the contest's initial eight goals and owned a 9-1 lead with 11:39 to go in the first half. The Lions would claw back by netting five of the game's next seven scores to slice the deficit to five (11-6) at the 20:45 mark of the second stanza.
That would be as close as Georgian Court would get the rest of the way as the Huskies continued to counter each and every time the Lions felt they were inching closer.
Grace Kelleher (So.-Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and
Hannah Jaskuta (Sr.-Gilbertsville, Pa.) led the Bloomsburg charge with five goals apiece. Three Lions, including
Samantha Fernandez,
Amanda Marino, and
Shaine Sauter, posted two-goal games in the setback.Â
Angela DiPasquale (Jr.-Paramus, N.J.) secured the opening day "W" for the Huskies with 16 total saves in the complete-game, 60-minute effort.
Amber Neumann was stuck with the loss, gathering four saves in the GCU net.
The Lions return home Thursday to take on yet another PSAC foe as #7 East Stroudsburg University visits campus for a 2:30 p.m. non-conference showdown.
