Caldwell, N.J. - Georgian Court University, toeing the postseason hardwood for the first time since 2003, made up for lost time in a big way Tuesday evening as the Lions upset host-Caldwell (#2 North), 80-63, in the 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Championship Tournament quarterfinals.
GCU (13-15), playing as the #3 seed in out of the South Division, will now take on #1 overall seed, University of the Sciences, Saturday afternoon (5:00 p.m.) in the CACC semifinals (hosted by Caldwell University). The Devils dropped Felician University, the #4 seed from the North, 71-57, in Philadelphia.
The opening quarter proved to be a back-and-forth affair as the frame experienced three lead changes and three stalemates. With the score knotted at 12-all with 3:16, GCU went on a small 4-0 run to close the period with a 16-12 advantage.

Nerea Brajac jumper 2:55 into the second quarter increased the Lions' lead to six points, which proceeded to ignite a 11-2 spurt for the home team, capped by a
Tina Lebron (Jr.-Manalapan, N.J.) three-pointer 5:14 before intermission.
Now up 23-20, Caldwell (11-16 continued to control the momentum as the Cougars escaped into intermission with a slim 31-29 surplus.Â
The mojo began to turn to the road team coming out of the break with the Lions burying the Cougars, 24-11, in the third period, providing GCU a mighty 53-42 cushion heading into the fourth. Georgian Court poured it on over the final ten minutes, culminating with a 14-3 run to take an insurmountable 22-point lead (67-45) with just 5:09 remaining.
Jada Atchison, who was named to the All-CACC second team earlier in the day, proved that she was worthy of the nod as the red-shirt junior scorched Caldwell for a game-high 25 points, including six three-pointers.
Safiyyah Lee added a double-double showing of 16 points and 13 boards.
Destiny Thompson, also an All-CACC second-teamer, poured in 15 points, followed by
Carna Prokic with 10 points and five assists.
Lebron led the Cougars with 20 points (four three-pointers) in the defeat
. Andie Lennon (Sr. Secaucus, N.J.), in her final collegiate contest, tallied 14 points in the effort.
