Shippensburg, Pa. - Georgian Court University snapped its three-game losing streak, netting 10 first-half goals, en route to a high-scoring 19-12 non-conference road win over Shippensburg University Friday afternoon in NCAA Division II women's lacrosse action.
Samantha Fernandez paced the Lions' offense with a game-high seven goals (one assist), five of which came during the first stanza. The Raiders (2-1) trailing by seven at intermission, stormed out of the locker room with four unanswered goals to slice its deficit to three (10-7) with 25:18 to go in regulation. GCU immediately responded with five scores of its own, essentially sending Shippensburg adrift the rest of the way.
Nicole Barbella matched Fernandez with eight points of her own for the victors, registering three goals and five assists for Georgian Court.
Angelina Palermo and
Arianna Quinlan also contributed hat tricks for the Lions.
Alana Cardaci (So.-Eagleville, Pa.) topped Shippensburg with four points on the afternoon, including three goals and a helper.
Amber Neumann controlled nine saves (21 shots-on-goal) in the complete-game victory for Georgian Court.
Shaely Gamble (Fr.-Dover, Pa.) gathered five saves in the Raiders' net (60:00).
GCU (2-3) returns to home turf Tuesday afternoon with a non-conference contest vs. Lock Haven University. First draw is slated for 3:30 p.m.
