Lions Kick-Start Conference Play With 16-9 Home Victory Over Wilmington

Lakewood, N.J. -  Georgian Court University, playing its first contest vs. a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe this season, pulled away late Wednesday in an exciting 16-9 home win over visiting Wilmington University as eight different Lions netted goals for the victors.

The 16 tallies marks a season-high for GCU as the home team improves to 5-7 on the year with their second-straight triumph. The Wildcats fall even at 5-5 after the setback.

Wilmington connected on four of the contest's first six goals to take a 4-2 lead at 12:45 in the second period. The Lions proceeded to pour in four unanswered efforts to go ahead, 6-4, with 10:57 left in the third. The Wildcats refused to relent as the road warriors connected on three of the next four tallies to knot the score at 7-7  at the 6:26 mark of the same stanza.

Georgian Court would not permit its guest to snap the stalemate as the Lions went on to outscore the Wildcats by a 9-2 margin the rest of the way, including a 7-0 run in the fourth frame, to secure the conference "W".

P.J. Saracino contributed a career-high seven points (four goals, three assists) in the victory, which included the eventual game-winning tally at 3:47 in the third. Brandon Razler added a hat trick and a helper while Devin Bell, Brandon Lewis and Troy Longley drilled two goals each.

Dylan McCleaft (Sr.-Media, Pa.) and Jake Walsh (Jr.-Wilmington, Del.) gathered three goals apiece for Wilmington while Austin Wood (So.-Middletown, Del.) added a pair.

The Wildcats owned a slight 37-32 shot advantage in the game, including a slim 24-23 surplus when it came to shots-on-goal.

CACC Goalkeeper of the Week, Austin Geissel, improved to 5-6 in the GCU net with 15 saves over 60:00. Wilmington's Noah Given (So.-Middletown, Del.) went the distance for the Wildcats, grabbing seven saves in the loss.

The Lions take to the road for their next outing with a visit to Felician University this Saturday. Start time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
