Lyndhurst, N.J. - #22 Georgian Court University completed its second consecutive undefeated week (6-0) Saturday afternoon as the Lions finished off Felician University, 15-3 and 10-1, in 10 total innings to become the first team in the East Region to eclipse the 30-win plateau this season.
GCU, winners of 13Â straight, pounded out 14 hits in the opener, as the 15 runs scored for the victors marks the team's highest single-game output since plating 20 runs in a 20-1 win at Nyack College back on April 25, 2014. The Lions now have 12 mercy-rule triumphs on the year.
Haley Jones jacked a pair of long balls in the win, finishing the game with a career-high five RBI.
Marissa Trezza continues to rake as the junior posted a 2-for-2 showing with two doubles and four ribbies.
Paige Eckert and
Kendalia Turner registered three hits apiece for the Lions.
Jessica O'Neil limited the Golden Falcons to just one run (1 ER) on a pair of hits and a lone free pass over 4.0 innings (3 K) to improve to 12-1 in 12 starts (20 appearances) for GCU. Â
The Georgian Court momentum carried into the nightcap as the road team, after scoring an initial tally in the first, proceeded to bring around five more in the third, and another four in the fifth, to cruise to the CACCÂ sweep.
Samantha Reilly connected for her 12th long ball in the first inning to tie Trezza for the conference lead. The slugger also added a two-run, two-bagger in the fifth.Â
Eryka Springer sprung on 1-0 pitch in the third to crush the club's second grand slam of the season (Trezza). The junior transfer now owns seven home runs in just 59 at-bats.
Malia Black posted a 3-for-3 effort in the Game Two "W".
Mikayla Gilgert needed just three frames (4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, K) to earn the freshman her eleventh win of the campaign (11-3).
The Lions (30-5, 15-1 CACC) move on to Tuesday with another conference road trip, this time at Goldey-Beacom College. The first of the two-game set begins at 2:30 p.m.
