Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University now sits just one victory away from its third-straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women' Lacrosse Championship Tournament (and fifth overall) as the #1-seed Lions dropped #4 Dominican College, 20-10, in Friday semifinal action.
With the score tied 3-3 at the 19:39 mark of the first half, Georgian Court poured in five unanswered tallies to go ahead 8-3 at 13:01. After both teams put away a pair to make the score 10-5 with 5:23 left before intermission, GCU netted three goals over the final 4:13 (including two while down a player) to slide into the break ahead by eight at 13-5.
The Lions and Chargers each exchanged a marker to start the second to make it 14-6 Lions. GCU then proceeded to bust the match wide open with six unanswered to take an insurmountable 20-6 lead with 13:06 remaining in regulation.
Nicole Barbella and
Arianna Quinlan, a pair of All-CACC selections in 2019, combined for 20 total points in leading the Lions' offense. Barbella, the nation's Division II leader in assists, added nine more helpers on the afternoon, complemented by her three goals. Quinlan drained a game-high five tallies to go along with a trio of assists.
Madison Heck, also on the All-CACC squad, connected on four goals (one assist).
Heather Devaney contributed a hat trick and a helper while
Shaine Sauter sent in a pair of her own. Georgian Court owned a 26-20 shot advantage on the day, including a 29-15 shots-on-goal margin.
CACC Goalkeeper of the Year,
Amber Neumann earned her 14th victory of the season (14-4) as the senior secured five saves over 52:14 for the win.
GCU will now take on Jefferson (formerly Philadelphia University) in the CACC Championship Game for the third time (2009, 2010, 2017) after the #2 Rams outlasted #3 Wilmington University, 13-12 in overtime, in the second semifinal of the afternoon.
