Georgian Court Women Unable to Rebound From Rough First Frame As First-Place Post Eagles Soar to 65-58 Conference Win

Lakewood, N.J.- Trailing 26-9 after the first period of action, and suffering a 20-point deficit with 7:50 left in the second, Georgian Court University erased all but two of those points before visiting Post University recouped the momentum as the first-place Eagles proceeded to hold off the Lions, 65-58, Saturday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball action.

The Lions, down by a count of 31-11 early through the second frame, answered with a remarkable 35-13 run of its own that carried into the following half. GCU cut the Eagles' advantage to just 46-44 after a Tian Addison layup with a minute left in the period.

Up by a single bucket entering the fourth-and-final quarter of action, the road team snapped out of its funk and scorched the Lions with a 9-1 spurt to create a seemingly comfortable 55-45 cushion with 6:30 remaining in regulation. GCU could only climb to as close as three the rest of the way when a three-ball from Savawn Hughes with 54 seconds on the clock made the score 59-56 Eagles.

Sha'Raya Haines (So.-Springfield, Ma.) led the way for the victors with her game-high 23 points, while also supplying six rebounds and five helpers. Angelica Flores (Jr.-Orlando, Fla.) hit 6-of-8 from the floor, ending the day with 16 points. Taylor Williams (RJr.-Detroit, Mich.) followed with 10 points to go along with nine rebounds.

Safiyyah Lee paced the Lions with her 12 points, six swipes, and four assists, which complemented the senior's six boards. Jada Atchison added 11 points for the royal and gold.

Georgian Court (7-15, 5-10 CACC) now takes to the road for a divisional showdown at Jefferson this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. The Lions bested the Lady Rams, 93-82, back on Dec. 19 in the Wellness Center.
