Philadelphia, Pa. - Trailing by 11 points at the half, and down by 18 with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter, Jefferson women's basketball mounted a furious 42-18 run the rest of the way to surpass and defeat visiting Georgian Court University, 82-76, Tuesday evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) divisional action.
A
Sabria Lytes (Jr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) lay-in at the 4:29 mark of the third lit the fuse for the Lady Rams as the home team cut the Lions' lead to 63-55 to close the quarter, thanks to a 15-10 spurt. Jefferson proceeded to take off in the fourth-and-final frame with an astounding 17-1 surge to take an eight-point lead of its own (72-64) with just 3:31 to go in regulation.
Georgian Court could not muster the mojo to climb back into the affair as the Rams increased their cushion to a game-best 10 points (80-70) with only 19 ticks remaining on the clock.
Alynna Williams (Sr.-Ambler, Pa.) never left the floor for Jefferson (14-11, 10-6 CACC) as the senior topped all players with 30 points (five three-pointers) in 40 total minutes.
Haley Mienel (Fr.-Warrington, Pa.) followed with 20 points off her own, while also tallying five steals and four blocks. The aforementioned Lytes closed the evening with 11 points and seven boards.
Safiyyah Lee did her best to keep the Lions in the game as the senior paced the squad with 23 points (including a 9-for-15 effort from the floor) and nine rebounds. The Georgian Court freshman tandem of
Tian Addison and
Savawn Hughes contributed 20 and 10 points, respectively, in the setback.
GCU (7-16, 5-11 CACC) gives it another go Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. divisional showdown at Goldey-Beacom College. The Lions dropped a 66-58 decision to the Lightning back on Jan. 21 in the Wellness Center.
