Wilmington, Del.- Goldey-Beacom College never trailed as the Lightning registered a 78-69 home win over visiting Georgian Court University in Saturday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball divisional action.
After owning a 43-30 advantage at the intermission, GBC increased its surplus to a game-high 20 points when a
Juran Ligonde (So.-Boston, Mass.) layup made the score 61-41 Lightning with 9:59 left in regulation. Georgian Court proceeded to make things interesting as the Lions rattled off an impressive 31-8 run and put the road team to within three points (72-69) with just 1:09 to go.Â
Goldey-Beacom (14-12, 11-6 CACC) snapped out of its slump in just the nick of time as the Lightning zapped Georgian Court with a mini 6-0 spurt to hang on for the win and clinch the second seed in the CACC South postseason standings.
Ligonde highlighted the Lightning offense with his double-double performance of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Kyle Elliot (Jr.-Rahway, N.J.) followed with 14 points while
Nazim Derry (Fr.-Atlantic City, N.J.) and
Tyler Jones (Jr.-Lawrenceville, N.J.) poured in 12 points apiece.
As for the Lions,
Justin Figueroa and
Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor each netted 13 points in the GCU setback.
Caleb Bowser registered 11 points in 33 minutes off the Georgian Court bench.
Georgian Court (8-16, 6-11 CACC), having completed its 2019-20 road slate, returns home Wednesday to host Wilmington University at 8:00 p.m. in another CACC South Division tilt.
