Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University collected its second-straight victory Tuesday afternoon as the Lions held off visiting Molloy College, 10-8, in NCAA Division II non-conference men's lacrosse action.
Molloy (0-4) owned an early 2-1 lead before the host-Lions rallied to net seven of the contest's next nine scores to build a healthy 8-4 advantage with 1:12 to go before intermission. The visitors came out of the break refreshed as Molloy peppered GCU with three straight tallies to start the third and cut its deficit to 8-7 with 5:20 to go in the frame.
The two squads would alternate the next two goals before
Vincent Giunta fired in his second of the game (third of season) to provide the always-appreciated insurance effort for the Lions with 4:01 left in regulation.
Thomas Levasseur enjoyed the best game of his young collegiate career as the freshman poured in a game-high four goals in the triumph.
Randy Collins rattled home two tallies of his own while
P.J. Saracino collected a goal and a pair of helpers.
Tanner Lee also got into the act with a score and his team-leading 10th assist of the year. The aforementioned Giunta also led the Lions with seven ground balls.
Jack Egan (Jr.-Rockville Centre, N.Y.) paced Molloy with a hat trick while
Anthony Teresky (Jr.-Wantagh, N.Y.) dished a trio of assists. Despite the result, Molloy out-shot Georgian Court, 44-31, including a slight 23-22 advantage on frame.
Austin Geissel evens his goalkeeping record to 2-2 as the senior registered 15 saves in the complete-game effort.
James O'Grady (So.-Floral Park, N.Y.) garnered 12 denials in his 60:00 of action for Molloy.
GCU (2-2) now takes to the road for its next four outings, starting with a visit to the University of the District of Columbia this Saturday at noon.
