Mikayla Gilgert fired her first collegiate no-hitter, and 
Jade Warner drove home five runs as Georgian Court University closed day one of the 2020 Spring Games with an 8-0, six-inning shutout of Tiffin University (2-3) Saturday in Winter Haven, Fla.
The Lions opened the afternoon with a 6-4 victory over Notre Dame College (OH) as GCU earned the two-game sweep and improved its record to 3-5 on the young season.
Gilgert dominated in the circle for the royal and blue as the sophomore permitted just a pair of free passes, while striking out six in the hitless effort. The native of Queen Creek, Ariz. fired 81 total pitches, yielding six ground-ball and six fly-ball outs in the masterpiece.
Warner powered the Lions to the win with a 3-for-3 effort at the dish, including a two-run long ball to right-center in a three-run fifth inning for the victors. 
Lindsey Fischbach continues to swing a hot bat for Georgian Court as the senior (batting .400 on the season) went 2-for-2 with a pair of ribbies in the rout. 
Kendalia Turner came around to score three runs, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base atop the GCU lineup.
Owning a 3-0 lead after three-and-a-half in the opener, Notre Dame (1-4) rallied to score a trio of tallies in the bottom of the fourth to knot the score at 3-all. A 
Samantha Salomon run-inducing single and a
 Paige Eckert RBI groundout put the Lions back up by two in the top of the fifth frame. 
Malia Black (2-for-3, 3 RBI) added an insurance digit with a single in the sixth to secure the win.
Samantha Fohrman improved to 2-1 for GCU as the freshman permitted four runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk (5 K) over her five innings of action. 
Sierra Bilinski (1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) garnered the save with two scoreless frames.
The Lions return to action Sunday with contests vs. Gannon University (2:45 p.m.) and Concordia University-St. Paul (5:00 p.m.).
