Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University opened a 22-9 advantage after one quarter of action and never looked back as the Lions never trailed during its decisive 78-60 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference divisional victory over Holy Family University Tuesday night in the Wellness Center.
The win, GCU's second straight, counters an initial 67-58 loss to the Tigers back on January 15 in Philadelphia. HFU (13-7) has now lost two-consecutive conference contests (Feb. 1 at Dominican) after starting the year 11-0 in CACC women's basketball competition.
Georgian Court received major contributions from its bench as both
Safiyyah Lee (19 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks) and
Leighanna Lister (10 points, 10 boards) each authored double-double performances in reserve roles for the victors. For Lee, the effort marks the senior's team-leading seventh double-double while Lister lands the first of her collegiate career.
Jada Atchison buried 18 points (including a trio of three-pointers) while also grabbing eight boards and dishing a team-best six helpers.
Savawn Hughes added 12 points and six rebounds in the win.
Holy Family experienced a pair of double-doubles in the losing effort as
Anjelai Hayes (Jr.-Woodbury, N.Y.) (19 points, 10 rebounds) and
Moe Moore (Fr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) (15 points, 17 boards) provided some thrills for the Tigers.
Elizabeth Radley (Sr.-Hainesport, N.J.) poured in 12 points over 34 minutes for the road team.
The Lions (6-13, 4-8 CACC) take to the road Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. conference showdown at Bloomfield College (4-18, 3-10 CACC).
