New Wilmington, Pa. - Georgian Court University concluded its two-game road trip to western Pennsylvania Sunday as the Lions populated the win column for the first time this season with a 15-7 triumph over Slippery Rock University in a contest played at Westminster College.
The match was never in doubt as the Lions coasted to a first-half surplus of 11-2. Slippery Rock (1-1) would hold a 5-4 advantage in the second stanza, but the damage was already done as GCU successfully snapped its four-game losing streak to start the year. The victors also dominated the shots column, 36-19 (28-15 on frame).
Five Lions recorded mulit-goal performances on the day, including four apiece from
Arianna Quinlan (two assists) and
Sabrina Chandler (assist).
Shaine Sauter (two assists) fired home a hat trick in the rout while
Madison Heck (assist) and
Heather Devaney (two assists) netted two each for Georgian Court (1-4).
Alexis Hahn earned the win in her first collegiate start for the royal and gold as the freshman net-minder controlled eight saves in the complete-game victory (60:00).
GCU now prepares to pay a visit to the #1 team in the country, West Chester University, this Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
