Nylene Mateo Making Georgian Court Home This Fall as Latest Lions' Volleyball Signee

Lakewood, N.J. - Head coach Dan Sempkowski announced today that Nylene Mateo of Bogota, N.J. will be joining the Georgian Court University women's volleyball program this fall as the newest member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference-champion Lions.

"Nylene was one of the most dominant offensive players in New Jersey this past year, which will certainly translate to the college game," stated Sempkowski.  "But honestly, the most important quality to us is that Nylene knows how to win. Her high school team won the Group I State Championship three times in her career, including her junior and senior seasons. The ability to make plays in big-time matches is what we most look forward to."

A 5'11" outside hitter, Mateo played her scholastic volleyball at Bogota High School where she not only led the Buccaneers to three-straight Group I titles, but four consecutive state sectional championships, as well.

The owner of over 1,000 career kills, Nylene achieved first-team and third-team All-County status among other accolades. A star in the classroom as well, Mateo places in the top 10% of her class and is a member of the National Honor Society.

When asked why she chose Georgian Court, Nylene responded: "I chose Georgian Court because I believe it is going to provide me a good education. It is going to be fun, and it is going to feel like another home."
