Waterbury, Conn. - Thanks to Tuesday's edifying shootout triumph over #1 Dominican College in the 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament opener, #8 Georgian Court University's season concluded Friday with a 4-1 loss to #4 Wilmington University in the semifinal round, hosted by Post University at Waterbury's Municipal Stadium.
The Wildcats (12-4-3) move on to play #3 Jefferson in Sunday's title game after the Rams slammed #2 Holy Family University, 4-1, in the day's first contest.Â
Wilmington controlled the match from the outset, netting a trio of first-half tallies over the initial 31 minutes of action. Georgian Court added a score at 42:08 (thanks to
Sophia Ridolfo's first collegiate goal) to cut the deficit to 3-1 going into intermission.
The Wildcats two-goal cushion jumped to three at 70:51 when
Jimena Garcia Risoto (Jr.-Madrid, Spain) secured a hat trick, and ultimately the win, for Wilmington. Garcia Risoto also accounted for the first two goals of the match at 10:04 and 21:11.
The victors out-shot the Lions, 13-12, which included a 9-3 advantage on frame.
GCU ends the year with a ledger of 6-12-1.
