Lakewood, N.J. - Entering the night saddled with a five-game skid, Georgian Court University snapped the slide in style as the Lions, behind
Leighanna Lister's fourth double-double of the season, defeated visiting Assumption College, 53-46, to secure GCU its first home victory of the year.
Coming out of a low-scoring first half trailing Assumption by three points (23-20), the Lions left the Greyhounds in the dust by outscoring its guest, 20-9, in the third frame and taking a 40-32 advantage into the fourth-and-final period. The visitors (5-5) would never get closer than six points over the last 10:00 as GCU sealed its first-ever win vs. the Northeast-10 foe in four total tries (first meeting since 11/26/17).
The aforementioned Lister sported 13 points and 13 boards in her 33 minutes to pace the victors.
Hanna Thrainsdottir and
Ivona Krakic added 10 and nine points, respectively, off the Lions' bench. Krakic also accounted for three of the home team's 11 rejections in the win.
Anna Shaughnessy (Sr.-Attleboro Falls, Mass.) recorded a double-double of her own for Assumption with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Monica Spain (Jr.-Braintree, Mass.) matched her teammate with 11 points of her own in the effort.
The Lions (3-7) return to the home hardwood next Thursday, Dec. 30, when GCU welcomes Wilmington University at noon for a CACC divisional showdown.
