Philadelphia, Pa. - Four Lions eclipsed the double-digit plateau Tuesday night at Holy Family University, but the effort would not be enough to push Georgian Court University past the host-Tigers as the home team sent off GCU, 72-61, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball divisional action.
GCU, having gone ahead by a game-high six points on three separate occasions in the opening quarter, lost the lead for good over the final 3:41 of the frame as the Tigers took off on a solid 10-0 run to close out the stanza.
Coming out of the break trailing by four (33-29), the Lions managed to fight back to the even mark when a pair of
Hanna Thrainsdottir free throws at the 8:02 mark of the third knotted the score at 35-all. Holy Family proceeded to turn on the afterburners and take an overall game-best surplus of 11 after rocking the road squad for 13-2 spurt and make the score 48-37 Tigers with 3:06 left in the penultimate period.
Georgian Court would not climb closer than five points the rest of the way as the royal-and-gold drops its fourth-straight outing to fall to 2-6 (0-3 CACC) on the season. HFU climbs above .500 at 6-5 while recording its first conference win on the year (1-2 CACC).
Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa.) proved to be the star of the night as the junior guard garnered a double-double performance consisting of 23 points and 16 boards, while also adding five assists and three swipes in the win.
Jada Saeger (Jr.-Walnutport, Pa.) followed with 15 points, shooting 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Erika Aspajo, playing all 40 minutes for the Lions, paced the team with 14 points. The freshman also snared eight rebounds in the effort.
Nerea Brajac and Thrainsdottir (three blocks) followed with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Tian Addison poured in an even 10 points while
Ivona Krakic cleared the glass of a team-best 11 boards.
The Lions return home for a non-conference tilt this Friday night as Lincoln University (PA) comes to the Wellness Center for a 6:00 p.m. tip.
