Lakewood, N.J. -
Savawn Hughes hit for a season-best 20 points, and reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week,
Anyssa Fields, authored her fourth double-double of the year, as Georgian Court University completed the season-sweep of Nyack College with a 64-49 home victory Thursday evening in CACC women's hoops action.
The first-place Lions, now a perfect 6-0 (6-0 CACC), also triumphed over the Warriors (0-4, 0-4 CACC) by a 69-62 tally back on January 30 in Jersey City, N.J.
GCU controlled the contest throughout the first half, developing a 17-5 surplus with 1:43 left in the initial quarter (courtesy of a Hughes layup) and inflated its advantage to a game-best 20 points when a
Brielle Bisogno three-pointer with 00:01 to go before the break made the score 39-19 Lions.
The Warriors whittled its deficit to 11 (46-35) heading into the fourth period of play by outscoring the home squad, 16-7, in the third frame. A
Sarah Wilson (Jr.-New Hope, Pa.) three-pointer put Nyack to within just seven (48-41) at the 7:39 mark of the final stanza, but that would be as close as the road team would get as GCU launched a 16-8 run to close the game (and seal the conference "W").
Hughes went 6-of-14 from the field in the win while connecting on 8-of-11 attempts from the free-throw line. Fields collected 14 boards (including nine on the offensive glass) to go along with 12 points and four steals.
Tian Addison matched her teammate with 12 points of her own and garnered a game-high six swipes.
Hanna Thrainsdottir eclipsed double-digits in scoring with 10 points while
Leighanna Lister did the same in the rebound column (10).
Jasmine Cruse (Sr.-Houston, Texas) paced the Warriors with a 20-point night. Wilson followed with 13, including a trio of three-pointers.
Georgian Court returns to action Saturday at noon with a CACC home game vs. Bloomfield College (2-2. 2-2 CACC). Follow the action LIVE at
