Lakewood, N.J. - Kicking off the home stretch of the abbreviated 2020-21 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball slate Tuesday night, Concordia College and Georgian Court competed in a 40-minute skirmish as the visiting Clippers ended up sinking the Lions, 77-75.
The Concordia victory evens the regular-season ledger between the two foes as the Lions bested the Clippers in Bronxville, N.Y., 59-58, back on Feb. 6.
In a contest that witnessed 18 lead changes and nine stalemates, it would be no surprise that the score would be tied (39-39) at intermission. With the Lions opening the second stanza with a 10-6 spurt, Georgian Court created a four-point cushion (49-45) 5:16 into the half (14:44). Back-and-forth action would follow as the Clippers and their host would trade the lead eight more times (with five additional ties) over the next 13:19.
A
Dashaun Galloway (So.-East Orange, N.J.) layup with 1:25 remaining in regulation provided the visitors a 70-69 surplus. The Clippers proceeded to sail on a 9-1 run to supply Concordia seven points of breathing room (77-70) with only 0:12 left, securing the conference triumph.
Concordia's
Jared Young (Sr.-Mount Vernon, N.Y.) topped all scorers with his 19 points, which included a perfect 3-for-3 from the three-point line and an unblemished 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Dan Porcic (So.-Putnam, Conn.) nailed four three-pointers en route to his 15 points on the night.
Nalik Veasley (Fr.-Smyrna, Del.) dropped in 14 points and snared a game-high nine boards in 25 minutes off the Clippers' bench.
Davon Floyd and
Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor each netted 13 points apiece to lead the Lions.
Clint Wright, Jr. connected on four three-pointers to account for his 12 points.
Kim Speller, in his first action since he faced Concordia earlier this month, cleared the glass of a team-best seven rebounds.
Georgian Court (2-5, 2-5 CACC) takes to the road for its next action when the Lions pay a visit to Caldwell University at 6:00 p.m. GCU tamed the Cougars this past Saturday, 85-66, in the Wellness Center.
