Rutherford, N.J. - In one of the best starts to a career in program history,
Anyssa Fields continues to dominate the opposition as the freshman phenom recorded a season-best 32 points and 17 rebounds for her third-straight double-double, leading undefeated Georgian Court University to a 77-69 triumph at Felician University.
The Lions begin a season a perfect 3-0 for the first time since 1996-97 when Georgian Court proved victorious in five-straight to begin the campaign. The Golden Falcons, playing their first game of 2021, fall to 0-1 (0-1 CACC).
Felician opened the affair with a two-point advantage (22-20). GCU countered to win the second frame, 17-16, but the home team still managed to stay on top, 38-37, heading into intermission. It would take until the 1:00 mark of the third quarter for the Lions to secure its first advantage of the game as a Fields layup gave the road team a 54-53 surplus.
The Georgian Court offense never looked back as the Lions grew its lead to a game-high cushion of nine (65-56) with 7:34 left in regulation, completing an overall 13-3 run.
Fields, in her epic performance, shot 13-for-20 from the floor and nailed an outrageous 5-of-7 from beyond the three-point line. 11 of the Long Branch, N.J. native's 17 boards were of the defensive variety.
Tian Addison enjoyed a solid day of her own as the sophomore connected for 14 points while dishing seven helpers.
Briana Lee (So.-Jersey City, N.J.) recorded a double-double of her own, contributing 20 points, 14 rebounds, and a game-best five steals in the Felician setback.
Haylee Ramirez (So.-North Bergen, N.J.) also jotted 20 points in the scoring column, which included a trio of three-pointers.
GCU returns home this Saturday to host Concordia College (1-0, 1-0 CACC) at 12:00 p.m. in the Wellness Center.
