Lakewood, N.J. - Six Lions registered double-digit scoring efforts, and
Leighanna Lister and
Hanna Thrainsdottir each authored double-double performances, as Georgian Court University coasted past visiting Concordia College, 92-67, Saturday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball action.
Now 4-0 (4-0 CACC) on the year, the first-place Lions collected its highest point total of the young season, and most since dropping 96 vs. Felician University in the 2019-2020 finale.
The Clippers (1-1, 1-1 CACC) jumped out to an immediate 5-0 advantage to start the day before GCU pounced for a furious 27-2 run, and taking a healthy 20-point lead after one period of play. The Lions' surplus climbed to a first-half high of 21 after a Thrainsdottir jump put the royal and blue up 40-19 with 2:54 left in the half.
After inflating its cushion to 25 points (58-33) with 3:59 to go in the third, Concordia proceeded to erase 12 points of its deficit as a 28-16 spurt made the score 61-74 GCU with 5:17 remaining in regulation. Not to be outdone, Georgian Court removed all doubt of the outcome by closing the contest on an 18-6 sprint.
The victors shot a scalding 54.1% from the floor, hitting 40-of-74, while nailing 6-of-13 three-point efforts.
Thrainsdottir collected her second double-double of the season (1/28 vs. Dominican), recording 13 points and 10 boards. The junior forward from Iceland also proved to be stone cold on the defensive end with her three blocks. Lister enjoyed a balanced attack in the win with season-highs of 14 points and 12 rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench.
Even though her streak of three-straight double-doubles to start her collegiate career came to a close,
Anyssa Fields still dazzled on the hardwood as the freshman topped all players with her 26 points. The Long Branch, N.J. product drilled 10-of-19 from the field (3-for-5 three-pointers), while also tallying eight boards, four helpers, and a team-leading four thefts.
Kremenovic ended her shooting slump in a big way as the sophomore contributed 16 points.
Tian Addison and
Savawn Hughes joined the point party with 12 and 11, respectively.
Marigona Bacaliu (So.-Worcester, Mass.) and
Shanice Graves (Sr.-Brooklyn, N.Y.) paced the Clippers with 14 points apiece.
Saundra Cleckey (Jr.-Queens, N.Y.) added 11 points.
Sara Hopkins (Jr.-Mountain Top, Pa.) connected for 10 points and dished eight assists.
GCU returns to the road Tuesday with a visit to Caldwell University. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
