Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Georgian Court University owns its first season-opening three-game winning streak since the 2010 campaign as the Lions remain undefeated after escaping Molloy College with a 9-8 triumph Thursday evening in NCAA Division II non-conference women's lacrosse action.
With Molloy owning a two-goal edge (4-2) at 17:05 in the first half, GCU proceeded to net five-straight scoring efforts to enter intermission with a 7-4 cushion. The Lions would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way, but it would not be easy to hold off the home team as Molloy would account for four of the six second-half tallies.
After Molloy's
Haille Ross (So.-Sayville, N.Y.) put her squad to within just one (9-8) at the 3:47 mark of the second, the Georgian Court defense held its ground as the royal-and-gold shutdown the opposing offensive attack the rest of the way.
Amanda Marino fired home a game-best three tallies in the Lions' victory.
Sabrina Chandler paced the road team with four points, including a pair each of goals and assists.
Heather Devaney also sent in two goals on the night.
Talysa Jimenez produced a solid effort on the defensive end with five ground balls and a caused turnover.
GCU edged Molloy in the shots column, 24-21 (16-14 SOG).
Alexis Hahn improves to 3-0 between the Georgian Court pipes as the sophomore goalkeeper collected six saves in the complete-game (60:00).
Georgian Court (3-0) now prepares to finally make its 2021 home debut as the Lions host #14 Mercy College on Wednesday, March 24 at 3:30 p.m. Follow the action LIVE on the
