Women's Soccer Breaks Into Win Column With Home-Opening Victory vs. Chestnut Hill College

Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University, after an uncharacteristic performance in Wednesday's season-opening 3-0 loss at Nyack College, returned to familiar territory (the win column) as the Lions bested visiting Chestnut Hill College, 1-0, Saturday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's soccer action.

After a scoreless first half, Aliya Canfield connected for the match's only tally at 57:24 as the sophomore picked off a failed clearing attempt by the Griffins' defense, took a dribble, and lined a laser into the bottom right.

The two squads provided plenty of shooting efforts, with the Lions owning a 19-17 advantage in the shot column. GCU dominated when it came to shots on goal (11-1) while drawing eight corner kick opportunities (1 for Chestnut Hill).

Alyssa Dias registered the win in net for the victors, gathering just a lone save in the complete-game triumph. Amanda Ianniciello (Sr.-Milton, Ontario) put on a clinic for Chestnut Hill (0-3, 0-3 CACC) in the setback, securing 10 saves over 60:00.

The Lions (1-1, 1-1 CACC) will next take the pitch this Tuesday with a 2:00 p.m. visit to Dominican College.
