Pleasantville, N.Y. - A victory of the come-from-behind variety in the opener, and a commanding triumph in the nightcap, resulted in a solid softball sweep Thursday at Pace University as Georgian Court University improved to 5-1 on the season with its fifth-straight win.

Trailing 3-2 with one out in the sixth inning of game one, Carleigh Luzzo's two-run double to left erased the one-run deficit and put the Lions ahead. Taylor Barraza added an insurance tally in the following frame with a ribbie single through the left side to cement GCU's 5-3 win.

Samantha Fohrman moves to 2-0 in the circle, firing 4.2 innings of one-hit relief (0 R, 2 BB, 5 K) for the royal-and-gold. The Lions mashed 12 hits in the effort, topped by Caitlin Hughes and a perfect 4-for-4 performance in her customary lead-off spot.

A crooked seven-spot in the top of the second inning in game two provided the visitors plenty of cushion on the scoreboard as Georgian Court coasted to a 7-2 triumph. The Lions rapped six hits and took advantage of eight free passes from Pace pitching to put the contest out of reach. Malaya Black (double) and Barraza each posted 2-for-3 efforts with the bat while knocking in two runs apiece.

Mikayla Gilgert went the distance for the Lions, permitting two runs (1 ER) on three hits (0 BB), to improve to 3-1 on the year. The Georgian Court ace struck out six Setters in the complete-game effort.

Pace dips to 1-7 with the pair of setbacks.

GCU returns to the road Friday with a non-conference visit to Queens College. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for noon.
