Lakewood, N.J. - In a rematch of the only two men's lacrosse championship games in CACC history (both won by Georgian Court University), Chestnut Hill College traveled to Lakewood Tuesday afternoon to renew its rivalry with the Lions. It would be the Griffins' turn to walk away with the win as CHC dismissed GCU, 13-7, to take a 4-3 lead in the all-time series between the squads.
With the score tied at 3-3 at 1:43 in the first period, Chestnut Hill unloaded for four-straight goals, and seven of the game's next eight tallies, to take a robust 10-4 advantage with 7:14 to go in the third. The foes split the match's final six scores, preventing the Lions from mounting a significant comeback attempt. The Griffins owned a healthy 57-30 cushion in the shot column.
CHC (5-2) improves to 2-0 in conference play while the Lions fall to 6-2 (2-1 CACC) after watching their four-game winning streak come to a halt.
P.J. Saracino paced Georgian Court with three points (two goals, assist), followed by
Michael Ventresca with his two successful scoring efforts. In a physical affair,
JD Warren proved to be a presence for the Lions with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Daniel Burnham (1 assist) followed with three grounders and a pair of caused turnovers.
Despite the outcome,
Austin Geissel was sensational in the GCU frame, recording 21 saves and four ground balls in the complete game.
GCU takes to the road Saturday with a visit to Caldwell University for another CACC showdown. Start time is set for 10:00 a.m.
