Georgian Court Continues Conference Dominance as Road Sweep of Wilmington Keeps CACC Record Perfect

Wilmington, Del. - Georgian Court University softball continues to run wild through the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference as the Lions scorched reigning champion, Wilmington University, Tuesday for yet another CACC sweep. GCU powered past the Wildcats, 13-1 and 11-2, in a pair of five-inning affairs.

With the victories, the royal and gold improve to a perfect 14-0 vs. CACC foes (21-3 overall). Wilmington wilts to 10-12 (10-6 CACC) with the defeats.

In the opener, the Lions pounded out 17 hits, five of which were of the extra-base variety. Two tallies in the first inning, followed with three more in the third and a robust eight runs in the fifth, comfortably secured the game one win for the road team. Six members of the Georgian Court lineup registered multi-hit efforts at the dish. led by the red-hot Alyssa Rue and her 3-for-4 performance.

 Adriana Mungo went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, including a two-run homer in the fifth. Taylor Barraza, the team leader for runs-batted-in, added three more for the Lions in the sophomore's 2-for-3 effort. Caitlin Hughes (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Malaya Black (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI) and Jayda Jones (2-for-3, R, RBI) also reaped results with the bat.

Samantha Fohrman, named CACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, improved to 11-1 in the circle for GCU, yielding a lone unearned run on six hits (1 BB) while striking out four in five full frames. The sophomore is now 6-0 over her last six starts.

Trailing 2-0 for through three innings, Georgian Court exploded for 11 runs on eight hits in the top of the fourth to abruptly put the nightcap out of reach. Elisa Lopez (2-or-3) launched a pair of two-run home runs in the frame to lead the onslaught. Jones (2-for-4) also recorded a pair of RBI singles in the inning, collecting three in all. Mungo went 2-for-4, smacking a three-run double in the sensational stanza.

Alyssa Herrera topped all players with three hits in the victory. 

Mikayla Gilgert (10-1) gets the win for GCU, permitting two runs (1 ER) on four hits (4 K) in the complete-game.

The Lions return to action Thursday with a 2:30 p.m. home CACC twin-bill vs. Holy Family University.
