Lakewood, N.J. - For the first time in the four-year men's lacrosse rivalry between Wilmington University and Georgian Court, the Wildcats closed out a contest on top as WU, thanks to an eight-goal fourth period, stunned the hometown Lions, 13-9, Tuesday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.

Wilmington pounced out of the gate with an immediate 3-0 lead after the initial 15:00 of play. The surplus stretched to four when Jimmy Cava (Fr.-Camden, Del.) netted his second of four tallies at the 14:02 mark of the second. The Georgian Court offense eventually responded as the royal-and-blue poured in eight of the contest's next 10 goals (including five-straight at one point) to counter with an 8-6 cushion of its own early in the fourth frame.

After a Randy Collins scoring effort snapped an 8-8 stalemate (and put the Lions up by one) with 7:39 left in regulation, the road team unleashed a 5-0 flurry over the final minutes to win the conference contest going away.

P.J. Saracino and Michael Ventresca each accrued two goals and an assist for the Lions. Devin Bell and Lucas Iarossi also collected two goals apiece in the GCU setback. Daniel Burnham dished an assist while compiling five ground balls and a trio of caused turnovers.

GCU owned an oh-so-slim shot margin of 43-44 over Wilmington. The Wildcats (3-3, 3-1 CACC) countered, however, by dominating the face-off, securing 16 of the game's 25 attempts.

Noah Given (Jr.-Middletown, Del.) collected the win for Wilmington, securing eight saves in the effort. Austin Geissel grabbed 11 saves for GCU, and now needs just 10 more denials to become the first with 1,000 saves in NCAA DII history.

Georgian Court (7-3, 3-2 CACC) closes out the CACC regular season Saturday at 7:00 p.m. with a visit to Dominican College. The Lions defeated the Chargers, 17-8, back on March 24 in what counted as a non-conference contest.
