Lakewood, N.J. - The Spring 2021 season came to an abrupt end for Georgian Court University Friday afternoon as
Nemanja Zivanovic's (Sr.-Belgrade, Serbia) tally just 16 seconds into double overtime punched Concordia College's ticket to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Championship game.
The #2 Clippers, with the 2-1 victory over the #6 Lions, now prepare to visit #1 Dominican College Monday night at 8:00 p.m. in the CACC title contest.
Concordia (6-1) and GCU found themselves embroiled in a scoreless stalemate until the 78th minute when a goal from
Johan Feilscher (So.-Bad Bramstedt, Germany) put the home team ahead, 1-0, at the 77:26 mark. Showing a flair for the dramatic, the Lions capitalized on a devastating Clippers' infraction with only 2:09 remaining in regulation.
Niklas Laenger promptly deposited the subsequent penalty kick to tie the match at 1-1.
With both squads unable to crack the tie in the first overtime session, the stage would now be set for Zivanovic and his heroics. The victors owned a 15-11 shots advantage. Each team would put three shots a piece on frame.
GCU finishes the abbreviated campaign with a 3-5 record as all five setbacks ended with a final score of 2-1.
