West Caldwell, N.J. - Georgian Court University completed its fourth-consecutive unblemished regular season vs.Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition Saturday morning as the Lions tamed Caldwell University, 20-8, in women's lacrosse action.
The victory not only improves GCU's record to 10-2 (8-0 CACC), but provides the royal-and-blue 40-straight victories vs. conference foes. The Lions last lost to a conference opponent way back on April 16, 2016 when the aforementioned Cougars upended Georgian Court, 12-11, in Lakewood.
After an initial 30:00 of action that concluded with the Lions owning a slim 6-4 at intermission, Georgian Court exploded for 14 tallies (including 10 unanswered at one point) in the second stanza to coast to the 12-goal triumph. The victors dominated the shot column, 45-15.
Nine different Lions found the back of the net in the rout, paced by
Sabrina Chandler and her six goals (seven points).
Madison Heck followed with three goals and three assists while
Shaine Sauter registered a pair of scoring efforts and four helpers. The trio also combined for 22 draw controls, led by Sauter with nine on the day.
Amanda Marino (three goals) and
Heather Devaney (two goals, assist) each added three points for GCU.
Kelsey Naclerio enjoyed a two-point effort (goal, assist).
Alexis Hahn, the two-time reigning CACC Goalkeeper of the Week, improved to 10-2 in the Lions' cage as the sophomore collected four saves in 49:30.
GCU, the 2021 CACC regular-season champions. has clinched home-field advantage throughout the postseason. The Lions, who have earned a bye for the first round, will host either #4 Post University or #5 Caldwell Friday, May 7 in the CACC semifinals. Start time will be 12:00 p.m.
