Wilmington, Del. - Georgian Court University softball closed out its most successful Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular season ever as the Lions ended the slate with a road sweep of Goldey-Beacom College Sunday afternoon.
Securing victories of 8-2 and 9-1 (6 inn.), GCU finishes with a 25-1 mark vs. conference foes, its best finish vs. the CACC since going 22-2 way back in 2008. The Lions, now 32-4 overall, have clinched the 2021 CACC regular-season crown and a first-round bye in next week's CACC Championship Tournament.
Two runs in the top of the first, followed by three more in both the fifth and sixth stanzas, provided Georgian Court plenty of cushion en route to the game one triumph.
Sarah Clancy (1-0) recorded her first collegiate win in the contest, permitting two runs (2 ER) on four hits (1 BB, 2 K) in 4.1 innings of work.
A bulk of the run production came from the sticks of
Taylor Barraza and
Elisa Lopez, who each provided 2-for-3 performances with three RBI apiece.
Cailtin Hughes (2-for-5),
Adriana Mungo (2-for-3, 3 R, 2 BB), and
Alyssa Herrera (2-for-4, 3 R) also posted multi-hit efforts in the win.
Georgian Court registered its 14th mercy-rule win with the 9-1, sixth-inning nightcap effort. Mungo (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI) and
Alyssa Rue (2-for-3, 2 RBI) each smacked a pair of triples in the rout while Hughes (2-for-3, 2 R) ripped her second home run in as many days.
Mikayla Gilgert (16-2) earned the win with 1.2 innings of two-hit relief (1 BB, 2 K).
Jennifer Tellefsen's  start resulted in a no-decision as the senior went 3.1 frames in the outing (4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K).
Georgian Court now awaits its opponent in week's tournament in a game the #1 Lions will host on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
