Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University mustered a season-low 42 points Tuesday afternoon as the Lions saw its modest two-game winning streak come to a close with a 53-42 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference divisional setback vs. Chestnut Hill College.
The visiting Griffins, which never trailed in the contest, stays perfect in conference play (5-0, 11-3 overall) with the victory. The Lions, posting its lowest scoring total in the 27-game history vs. Chestnut Hill, slides to 5-9 on the season (2-5 CACC).
CHC came out of the tip with a hot hand as the Griffins netted the first 11 points of the game en route to a 13-2 lead after the initial quarter of action. The royal-and-gold countered with an 18-7 run to start the second period as an
Andjela Kremenovic jumper from the paint knotted the score at 20-20 with 3:34 left in the half.
Bri Hewlett (Sr.-North Wales, Pa.) proceeded to fire off a personal four-point tear with a pair of free throws (1:44) and successful jumper (1:06) to put the road team ahead, 24-20, at intermission.
A 19-11 third frame increased the Chestnut Hill cushion to 12 points (43-31) heading into the final stanza. The Lions would slice the deficit to as low as eight on two separate occasions in the fourth (2:05, 1:13), but could not climb any closer on this day.
In a statistical oddity, Georgian Court never made it to the free-throw line on the day as Chestnut Hill committed just four personal fouls in the win. In contrast, the Griffins connected on 13-of-16 attempts from the charity stripe.
The aforementioned Hewlett and teammate LIndsay Lane (Jr.-Havertown, Pa.) each topped the victors with 13 points apiece. Lauren Crim (Jr.-Warrington, Pa.) followed with 11 points for the Griffins.
Tian Addison, thanks to four three-pointers, hit for a game-high 16 points in 40 minutes for the Lions.
Leighanna Lister added six points to go along with eight boards and four rejections.
Nerea Brajac collected nine points and five assists off the GCU bench.
The Lions now take to the road this Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. CACCÂ interdivisional contest at Felician University.
