PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 11, 2022) - Georgian Court ran into a hot Chestnut Hill Tuesday night in Philadelphia. The Lions got swept by the Griffons 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-18).
How it Happened
• Chestnut Hill totaled 44 kills and hit .430 for the match while the Lions put down 21 kills, hitting .059.
• The Griffons went after it on service, landing 10 aces, but also hitting 12 errors. The Lions scored five service aces.
• Each team totaled five blocks on defense. The Griffons scooped 26 digs and the Lions 22.
• Things didn't start out well for the Lions who dug themselves an early 7-1 hole. They were able to fight back, getting to within two, 9-7, but couldn't close anymore ground the rest of the way. The Griffons extended the lead to seven, 16-9 with a 7-2 run, and ended it on a GCU service error, 25-16.
• Chestnut Hill hit .407 in the set with 15 kills, seven coming from Mikayla Grimes. Nine points were determined on CHU serves, four aces and five service errors. Points were coming in quick with just 12 total digs in the set, six for each side.
• After some back-and-forth at the start of set two, Georgian Court found themselves with a 7-5 lead. That lead didn't last long as the Griffons scored five straight for a 10-7 advantage and forced a Lion timeout. GCU never led again the rest of the way. The Griffons pushed the lead to seven, 15-8 and were comfortable trading points the rest of the way to a 25-15 win.
• After hitting .407 in set one, Chestnut Hill didn't hit a single attack error in set two. They hit 17 kills on 22 attempts for a .773 attack percentage and again landed four service aces and five service errors. The Lion defense, which totaled just six digs in set one, picked up only five in set two.
• Georgian Court again took an early lead in set three, 5-3, but it was another big Griffon run that put Chestnut Hill on top. They scored seven straight to take a 10-5 lead and led the rest of the way. Georgian Court showed fight, cutting an 11-point deficit down to four, 21-17, with an 11-4 run, but the Griffons scored four of the final five points for a 25-18 win.
• The Lions hit into 10 attack errors and landed just seven kills. But they doubled their number of digs with 11 in the frame.

Nylene Mateo picked up 10 kills and three digs. She hit .474 for the match.

• Mikayla Grimes totaled a match-high 16 kills and hit .542.
• Henielys Ramos was also in double-figures with 14 kills and hit .414.
• Erika Dubosky scored seven kills, four aces, and four digs.
• Mia Caporellie dished out 34 assists with a match-high nine digs.
