Lions Volleyball Travels to Connecticut to Battle Bridgeport

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Oct. 7, 2022) - After a one-off match at home, Georgian Court Volleyball is back on the road this Saturday in Connecticut.

Previously vs. Bridgeport
• Pre-pandemic was the last time Georgian Court and Bridgeport squared off. They met in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 East Regional Tournament with the Purple Knights advancing 3-1.
• The Lions tied the set 1-1 with a second set win that proved to be the lone set the Lions took.
• The only current member of the Lions who got into that game was Jessica Sprankle in her first year in the program.
• Current assistant coach Shana Rayside led the team with 11 kills in the match and three blocks.
• Bridgeport hit .260 while the Lions hit just .060 as a team.

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court played close with Jefferson, but ultimately fell to the Rams 3-1, winning in set three to force a fourth.
• Jefferson hit .220 for the match while the Lions attack percentage just topped .100 at .104.
• Georgian Court did land six more kills than the Rams, 51-46, but also hit into double the attack errors, 36-18.
• Nylene Mateo finished with a match-high 22 kills and added two aces, seven digs and two blocks.
• Chelsea Ross and Amiyah Woods each landed eight kills.
• Iciar Zayas recorded a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs.
• Jana Borkovic corralled a match-high 18 digs while adding nine assists.
• Jessica Sprankle scored three service aces and added 11 digs.

• Jana Borkovic has double-digit digs in six straight matches and is averaging 5.43 digs per set in that span. 
• Jessica Sprankle has picked up 20 service aces in her last seven matches.
• This past week, Nylene Mateo was selected to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. She has double-figure kills in four of her last five matches. 
Amiyah Woods is hitting .312 in her last seven matches. She has three matches better than .400 in that span, but two below .000.
Iciar Zayas picked up 30 assists Thursday against Jefferson and has three dig-assist double-doubles in her last four matches. 

Individual Milestones
• Jessica Sprankle is three service aces away from 100 for her career. 
• Iciar Zayas is four assists away from reaching 500 for the season. It'd be the 18th time an individual has reached 500 assists in a single season.
• Nylene Mateo needs five kills to reach 600 and just 0.5 points for 700.
• With three more kills Amiyah Woods will reach 150 in her career. 

About Bridgeport
• Bridgeport is currently on a three-match losing streak having not won in the month of October.
• They are 5-15 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
• The Purple Knights have a strong offense led by Paola Hernandez. She ranks fourth in the CACC with 3.51 kills per set. She's also picking up 2.36 digs per set.
• Marissa Mullens puts down nearly three kills per set and is second in the CACC with a .340 hitting percentage. Among those in the league's top-10 in hitting percentage she has the most kills and the highest kills per set average.
• Jaden Drollinger is also in the league's top-five in assists per set. She passed out 8.78 per match.
