LAKEWOOD, NJ (Dec. 31, 2022) - Playing shorthanded for the second straight game, Georgian Court Women's Basketball was in a tight battle against Post. GCU led for nearly 60% of the game, but Post scored 21 in the final frame to comeback for a 64-60 win on New Years Eve.
How it Happened
• Each team shot 33% from the floor. Georgian Court was 5-13 from three and while Post connected on eight from deep, they needed 32 shots. At the line, Georgian Court went 15-21 while Post struggled hitting just 12-20.
• The Lions lost the ball 20 times while Post committed 17 turnovers. Georgian Court though was unable to capitalize on those turnovers, scoring just 10 while Post made the most of their gifts, scoring 24 points off turnovers.
• In a game that featured nearly 100 missed baskets, there were plenty of rebounds to go around. Post totaled 47 while Georgian Court picked up 43. Post grabbed 18 offensive boards and turned those into 14 second-chance points.
• The Lions came out struggling to score, but Post was unable to take advantage. Georgian Court got their first points of the game at the 6:14 mark on a
Jariah Patterson layup to make it a 3-2 game. The teams traded a couple of three-point baskets in the middle part of the frame, but it was Sha-Raya Haines, she made four triples and gave the Eagles a 13-9 lead after one.
• Early in the second, Patterson tied the game at the free throw line and
Savawn Hughes splashed a three for an 18-15 GCU lead with 7:09 left to play in the half. Hughes buried another three with 4:37 left to give the Lions a 21-19 lead, and GCUÂ never trailed the rest of the half.
• Tied at 21, GCU went on a 10-1 to take their largest lead, 31-22 following a Patterson three. In the final 2:10 though, Post rallied and scored six of the final eight points.
Tian Addison made a layup in the closing seconds to give GCU a 33-28 lead at the half.
• Post picked up where they left off and started the second half on an 8-3 run to tie the game at 36-all with 6:11 left in the third. The Lions, up one, 41-40 went on another run to separate themselves late in the third. A 7-3 run to close the period maintained their five-point halftime lead, 48-43.

A'nya Harper opened the fourth with a pair of free throws and GCU led by seven, 50-43, with nine minutes to play. Shots started falling for Post though who scored nine straight, going 4-7 with a three to take a 57-54 lead with 3:29 left to play. Hughes made it a one-point game with a layup, but another Haines three and a bucket from Tai Pagan put the Eagles up six, 62-56.
• Still up by six, Hughes knocked in a three to cut the lead to 63-60 with 14 seconds left. Needing to foul, Haines went 1-2 at the line to make it a two-possession game and the Lions desperation three fell short in a 64-60 loss.
It Was Over When...
• Hughes gave GCU a shot hitting a three with 14 seconds left to play. Sha'Raya Haines though made it a two-possession game, scoring her 26th point at the free throw line and the Lions only had one more shot before the clock expired.
Lion Stat Leaders

Savawn Hughes scored 24 going 8-14 overall and 4-6 from three. She also grabbed six rebounds.

For the Eagles
• Sha'Raya Haines scored a game-high 26 points making six three pointers. She also had eight rebounds.
• Kiara Eubanks helped out with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
• Jailah White added 10 points on 4-5 shooting.
