Newark, Del. - Georgian Court University's inspirational playoff push continued Tuesday night as the Lions laid into Wilmington University, 77-45, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball action.
The victory, the fourth-straight for the royal-and-gold, puts the Lions (10-11 overall) in a tie with Holy Family University at 7-7 for the fourth-and-final postseason position in the South Division. The Tigers, with four CACC contests remaining, take the floor again Saturday at University of the Sciences.
GCU never trailed on the evening, entering the break with a cozy 39-17 cushion. The lead never dipped below that 22-point margin again the rest of the way, and ballooned to a game-high 43, after a
Leighanna Lister with 8:24 remaining in regulation made the score 72-29 in favor of the road team.
11 different Lions netted points in the rout with five members of the squad recording double-digits. CACC Co-Rookie of the Week,
Erika Aspajo, paced the team with 15 points in 24 minutes.
Nerea Brajac followed with 12 points in 17 minutes off the bench while
Anyssa Fields (11 rebounds),
Ivona Krakic, and Lister put in an even 10 on the night. For Fields, the effort marked the fifth double-double performance of the season for the sophomore (second-straight).
Georgian Court takes a day off before taking the home hardwood again this Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. vs. Nyack College.
