Women's Lacrosse Kicks Off 2022 Campaign With 9-5 Home Win Over Molloy ... Sauter Sensational with Five Goals, Eight Overall Points for Lions

Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University opened the 2022 women's lacrosse season right where it left off as the Lions secured a 9-5 non-conference home win over Molloy College. GCU has now won nine-consecutive contests, dating back to the 2021 campaign, with the last setback for the royal-and-blue coming on April 16, 2021 vs. then-#18 Mercy College.

The Lions completed the initial period of play with a 5-3 advantage, three of which came off the stick of Shaine Sauter. Each squad sent in one scoring effort in the second frame, resulting in a 6-4 halftime lead for the home team. Sauter and Heather Devaney each found the back of the net in the third quarter to make it 8-5 Georgian Court before Sauter accounted for the fourth period's lone tally, thus securing the opening day victory for GCU.

The brisk, 33-degree day had nothing on the red-hot Sauter as the fifth-year senior recorded five goals, and aided on three others, for an eight-point afternoon. Devaney collected a pair each of goals and helpers for the Lions. Sabrina Chandler contributed a goal while Isabel Raimondi added a goal and an assist in her collegiate debut.

Abbie Bellport (Sr.-Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Sofia Quitoni (Fr.-Wantagh, N.Y.) scored two goals apiece for Molloy (0-1). Despite the outcome, Molloy out-shot its host, 27-25, with both squads putting 19 shots each on frame.

Alexis Hahn stood strong in the Georgian Court net, collecting 14 total saves in the complete-game effort to earn the "W". Mary-Kate Sweeney (So.-Wantagh, N.Y.) earned 10 saves in the Molloy cage.

Georgian Court (1-0) returns to action this Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. when #11 Adelphi University pays a visit to the Lakewood campus.
