Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University, 3-7 in conference play on Feb.1, concluded an improbable 7-1 run to close the regular season as the Lions, with Thursday's 74-45 home win vs. Wilmington University, have clinched a berth in next week's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Championship Tournament.
The Lions, after breaking a 16-year postseason drought with a playoff appearance in 2018-19, have now secured a third tournament visit in four seasons. GCU (13-12, 10-8 CACC), as the #4-seed in the CACC south division, will visit either Felician University or Post University on Tuesday (6:00 p.m.) in the quarterfinal round.
The royal-and-gold never trailed in Thursday's regular-season finale as the Lions owned an 11-point lead (25-14) after the initial session before coasting into intermission with a 44-26 surplus. The lead would balloon to a game-high 31 points at the 6:23 mark of the fourth quarter as GCU put the finishing touches on the trademark triumph.
Ivona Krakic, playing her final home game with the Lions, topped all players with her 14 points and six blocks.
Precious Adediran secured a season-best 11 points in 18 minutes off the Georgian Court bench while
Anyssa Fields followed with 10 of her own.
Nerea Brajac (six points, five rebounds),
Leighanna Lister (six points, six boards), and
Hanna Thrainsdottir (seven points, three assists), like Krakic, suited up in the Georgian Court home whites for the last time.
Emily Ansah (Jr.-Bear, Del.) authored a double-double for the Wildcats with a 12 points and 12 boards while also tallying a trio of rejections.
Sabreen Muslim (Sr.-Baltimore, Md.) netted 12 points in the effort.
Jade Roberts (Fr.-Ashburn, Va.) finished with 10 points in 33 total minutes.
Wilmington, having lost 17-straight contests, falls to 1-21 (1-16 CACC).
